Time for writing

Over the last couple of years, I’ve wondered about the possibilities of dipping my toes into writing. I’ve always been a big fan of fantasy works such as C. S. Lewis’s Narnia series and Terry Brooks’ Shannara series and I originally wanted to write something along those lines, but consistent road blocks and a lack of time to write lead me to put that project on hold. Then comes the onslaught of superhero movies to spark the creative fire inside me to write once again, but not about mystical lands and young heroes on a quest, but rather young hero’s with special powers. A year and a half down the road of life has made me feel a little more confident in myself to start writing again, but I now have a new road block: time.

With a wife and two kids, a full time job as well as a part time job in the warmer months, which in south eastern Wyoming vary from year to year, I’ve found that balancing work and family with writing has been difficult at times. I find time here and there, usually on the couple Saturdays a month that my wife has to work which leaves my children asking what I’m doing and why while Paw Patrol or one of their other shows plays in the background. At this time, my part time seasonal job is slowly starting once again (Yes I know its February) and some recent good news has caused me to once again feel the need to get serious about my writing, so what better time than now to figure out how to fit into my crazy schedule the time to write. Hopefully down the road I will be able to share with you all what I find that works, and more likely than not, what fails epicly.

Thanks for reading

Jason Wilhelm
